Unity is an integral part of Islam and very germane to its true functionality as Muslims do many things in unison. The centre of their belief calls for unity in many acts of the faith and it was well established and developed to the best level during the period of its leaders – Prophet Muhammad(SAW) and the succeeding caliphates. Muslims generations have struggled to uphold that legacy, though it has not been an easy task due to factions of ideology developing from time to time. Meanwhile, the epicentre State of the faith is Saudi Arabia and many look unto her as the ideal expression of Islamic unity, and of course it is binding on it.
Meanwhile incidents and policies of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has continued to erode its Islamic values, setting up differences among Muslims, the recent one is the financing and supporting the overthrow of the elected president of Justice and Freedom Party in Egypt –Muhammad Morsi, who happened to be a member of Muslim Brotherhood an Islamist Organization. And the worst part of it is the killing of over 1000 innocent supporters and wounding many more which Saudi Arabia did not see as evil and even asked for more death if need be! What caused this action and insensitive to human distress is still a mystery to many who compare what Islam teaches and what the No 1 kingdom that spreads it displayed!
Among the teachings of Islam obtainable in the Quran and Hadith of the Prophet are the following:
“Verily this your community of believers is one community and I Allah is your lord, so worship Me” Q21:92.
“Surely all believers are brothers, so make peace between brothers and fear Allah that you may be shown mercy”Q49: 10.
“O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah as witness to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of other people make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just! That is nearer to righteousness and fear Allah, verily Allah is aware of what you do”Q5: 8.
“And good and evil are not alike. Repel evil with which is best and lo he between whom and thyself was enmity will become as though he were a warm friend” Q41: 35.
Prophet Muhammad(SAW) said:
“Do not envy each other, and do not hate each other, and do not eavesdrop on each other, and do not compete with each other, and do not spy on each other…and do not avoid each other, and do not give other the cold shoulder….and be slaves of Allah, brothers to each other, as He order you. A Muslim is the brother of Muslim; he doesn’t oppress him nor abandon him to an oppressor, nor does he look down upon him” (Bukhariy).
“Try to maintain relations even with those who want to cut relations with you, and treat well those who treat you badly and speak the truth, even against yourself” (ibn Najjar).
“Verbal abuse of a Muslim is hateful disobedience of Allah and fighting is kufr” (Bukhariy)
“One who wields a weapon against us is not one of us” (Muslim).
“One who is deprived of gentleness is deprived of all good” (Muslim) .
“Believers are like blocks on a wall, one part holding firmly onto other” (Bukhariy)
These are orders of unity and Muslim brotherhood by Allah and His Prophet, and it is legacy inherited by Muslims. Our Prophet and his companions exhibited them perfectly to the fullest in all aspect of life. The books on Islamic history bear witness to this! They invoked Allah for their brothers and their families with all good they wished to themselves; They forgave their brothers’ defaults, they overlooked their misdeeds, they covered their defects, they thought well of themselves, they did not cut relations with one who commit an evil or neglect him, rather they waited until he repent, but continued in his brotherhood by advising him, helping him to turn to Allah in repentance. In short, Muslim brotherhood left no difference between them that one prefers his brother to himself!
This is what every true Muslim expects from the ruling family of Saudi Arabia, which is the custodian of the two most sacred centers in Islam - the icon of unity and symbol of peaceful and perfect Muslim Brotherhood. Saudi Arabia is not expected to flock with common enemy of the ummah, it supposed to be vocal to the Muslims’ concern world-wide, it is not expected to dip hands in any dealing that will lead to bloodshed of any human being let alone Muslims, is not expected to play prank/hypocrisy with the Muslims welfare/livelihood, is not expected to nurture hatred of anyone, group of people, organization or state to the extent of harming them, let alone bragging of contributing to evil and bloodshed, it is not expected to carry the idea and act of ‘do-me-I -do-you’ which is making Muslims becoming laughing stock of the faithless. And it is not expected to adopt ideology foreign to Islamic values or try to lord the same over any group of people or nation on earth, instead it must promote Islamic values to the core with its perfect peace, justice and equality among mankind. The same is expected of any country claiming Islam as its state religion or having Muslim majority. But can Saudi Arabia justify its actions against Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, and Iran in the light of the above order?
Unfortunately the recent incident in Egypt has further proved Saudi Arabia and other Arabs counties claiming Islam wrong of their claim and expectations of the Muslim world. They seem to have lost respect of the true Muslim world. If truth must be told, their opposition to Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is highly unislamic. Time and again, excesses of Royal Saudi families are making headlines. The Muslim world looks for guidance from Arabs but they are turning more and more Western and even becoming western than the westerners. Every type of evil which one can imagine in the Western society is becoming present in the Muslim Arab societies. That was the reason why when US and EU saw the take- over as coup even hesitatingly and declared the killing as massacre and grievous evil, Saudi Arabia, an Islamic country for that matter denied it!
The Washington Post had in one of its editorial: “…The regime is orchestrating a propaganda campaign labeling the Islamists as terrorists, even though there is no evidence that the movement’s leaders - many of whom are being held incommunicado - have given up a decades-long commitment to nonviolence. Critical Egyptian media have been silenced and foreign journalists attacked….the crisis demands the delivery of an unambiguous message to the regime that a continued attempt to repress the Muslim Brotherhood by force, or the installation of a new autocracy, will leave Egypt isolated from the West…the billions in cash supplied to the new regime by Saudi Arabia and other Arab supporters is a temporary salve; in the end, any government seeking stability will need to come to terms with the International Monetary Fund, where U.S. influence is strong…”
But against this fact, Saudi Arabia sees the harmless Muslims as ‘terrorists’. King Abdullah, once charged that criticism of the army crackdown amounted to helping the “terrorists”. That is the language he knew Washington likes to hear to lend it support, but Obama and EU leaders have proved that they are not tomfools and have logically washed their hands off this clear injustice and bloodshed facilitated by so called allies. Saudi Arabia strong support for the coup is encouraging Cairo General - Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to crack down on the Muslim Brotherhood to kill and maim fellow Muslims for no just cause than self interest of the ruling family. Along with the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, Saudi Arabia did not just pledge immediately after the July, 3 coup that ousted President Mohammad Morsi to provide a combined $12bn in financial assistance, but it has also promised to make up for any western aid - including the $1.5bn dollars with which Washington supplies Cairo annually in mostly military assistance – that may be withheld as a result of the coup and the ongoing crackdown in which about 1,000 protestors are believed to have been killed. But as the Washington Post said it, ‘all that assistance is truly a temporary salve!’ and they will all regret it soon on later! Prince Saud al-Faisal said in the Kingdom’s SPA state news: “To those who have announced they are cutting their aid to Egypt or threatened to do that, Arab and Muslim nations are rich…and will not hesitate to help Egypt” – so their riches is to fan the flames of discord, instability and killing, to uphold illegalities, injustice, and criminal and corrupt government! Is this what they learned from Islam and should true Muslims act in this heartless way?
Allah says: “And create not disorder in the earth after it has been set in order…”Q7: 56. But Saudi rulers and their so called leaders of Muslim nations with whom they are in the clan of blood and shameless act did not consider this for Muslim Brotherhood and the entire people of Egypt.
To say the least, the contribution of Saudi Arabia at any level of involvement to the July 3rd coup in Egypt and the shameless support for the massacre of more than 1000 harmless Muslims by the interim government backed by the Military is appalling and condemnable not by the true Muslims alone but by every reasonable just man that have blood running in its veins. It is hard to fathom that such dastardly act was supported by Saudi Arabia ruling family without the least remorse for huge lives lost. It has betrayed the Islamic trust put on it by this shameful and murderous act.
It is time for them to think the consequence of their anti-Islamic policies, and that their imams to call them to order, to stop them from disservice and disgracing noble faith, and respected Muslims even if they are to sack them (the Imams). Saudi ruling family once sacked hundreds of Imams and closed down thousands of Haramain mosques abroad during the heat of September 11 in respect to US call!
Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said:
“When any one of you sees a thing that is disheartening, then let him correct it by his hand, and if that is not possible let him correct it by his voice, and if that is not possible let him reject it in his mind and that is the weakest of iman” (Bukhariy)
We expectimams in Saudi Arabia to tell their rulers that they are doing wrong things and are bastardizing Islam and respected Muslim ummah. Imams world-wide should stand against the recklessness of the rulers in Muslim countries and correct them, check their excesses. They should remember the saying of the Prophet:
“There is no obedience to anyone in the disobedience of Allah” (Bukhariy).
The Muslim Brotherhood society in Egypt is no doubt symbolic. It is what Islam stands for and tries to establish. Now that Saudi Arabia has crucified and scattered it, it is like Saudi ruling family has destroyed the spirit of Muslim Brotherhood and unity Islam calls for in all sphere of life! If Muslim Brotherhood’s, Freedom and Justice party is not performing, it is expected to be removed by the same vote with which it was installed, not by brutalizing and killing its members, supporters and well wishers, or that the whole society be proscribed. More importantly engineered by the custodian of respected and sacred sit of Islamic unity – is disgraceful! Rulers of Saudi Arabia have indeed stabled the unity of Islam at the back! They have created ineradicable evil among the Muslim world and have set lasting hatred of the kingdom to many minds that hold it respect not deserved if not for Islam.
Muslim Brotherhood is not after all Shiite, it is a Sunni based Islamic organization so what again is the real reason why Saudi Arabia ruling family excuse to be so averse to its success? Even if it is Shiite or non-believer organization, true Muslim must honor agreement and give them their rights. Injustice to others is the foundation of all evils and Saudi and its collaborators have created one! Disbelievers don’t know Allah but that does not make Allah to deny them their rights. He is Lord of Justice and He sides not with injustice against any of His creatures. That is why Allah says:
“O you who believe, be strict in observing justice and be witness for Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents and kindred. Whether he be rich or poor. Allah is more regardful of them both than you are. Therefore follow not low desires so that you may act equitably. And if you conceal the truth or evade it, then remember that Allah is well aware of what you do” Q4: 135.
The Prophet said:
“….And fear the prayer of the oppressed one, for truly there is no veil between him and Allah” (Nasai).
Thus, Saudi Arabia injustice and senseless support for bloodbath is never path of Islam. There is no reference of its kind in the life of Prophet Muhammad(SAW) and his blessed caliphates who ruled Mecca and Medina for ages. And if Saudi ruling family continue to get away from Islamic values and principles like this, then the downfall of the kingdom is certainly near and it will catastrophically become the spectator of its own tragedy, if it refuses to check its present amoral act, disgrace and dissension, which is bringing to Islam and Muslims world.
The kingdom must retrace its steps back to what Islam truly teaches a leader and must persuade other Arab and Muslim countries to take to the right course, even though the US and EU have somehow created a political situation that set stage for a protracted conflict and make Arabs, machineries of death against each other, but Allah has made you human being with reasoning and has given you Islam that guides to right conduct - the course of true Muslim Brotherhood ordered by Allah and preached by noble Prophet Muhammad(SAW) and his Sahabas. Therefore Saudi regional interests must not be lurched against Islamic unity and spirit of true Muslim Brotherhood, because the latter will finally and necessarily defeat the former in any form! Bolstering autocratic regimes at the expense of unity of Islam and Muslim Brotherhood or any Islamist party will not help Saudi Arabia , but it can bail itself out if it act sensibly within limit, and seek the support of its brothers even if needs be, to enter into treaty with them.
We pray Allah in His infinite mercy to forgive the Saudi ruling family of this monumental error and all the oppressors of the Muslims and to give them the spirit to make a positive change that will see Allah’s Blessing. We ask You O, Allah to console the families of the deceased, grant the dead forgiveness and admit them to Your Janah! “Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the faith. And leave not in our hearts, rancours against those who believed. Our Lord! Thou art indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful” Q59: 10
